Doctor

  • Corey Cherrstrom , DVM

I began to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine during high school with experience working for a friend's father in his veterinary hospital.  After undergraduate studies at Colorado State University and a year of graduate school in physiology at the University of California, Davis, I started UCD in the fall of 1968.  During veterinary school I gained experience at a research facility caring for a colony of cats and on the small animal treatment crew.

Both of these jobs gave me valuable additional experience with small animals.  I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1972.  I spent my first year after graduation at the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine in a small animal medicine internship.  The next four years were spent in two small animal practices in northern California.

I joined friends and classmates Drs. Rick Frey and Greg Fellers in March of 1977 in Loomis.  I enjoy all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery with a special interest in canine reproductive cases.

My wife, Jan, and I have been married since 1969 and have three sons: Matt, Dan, and Jay.  We have lived in Loomis since 1977 and currently have a Border Collie, cat and sheep to mow the pasture.  When away from veterinary medicine, I enjoy working in my orchard and fly fishing.

  • Rick Frey , DVM

Upon completing high school, I attended the University of Pacific in Stockton, California.  During summers I volunteered with some mixed animal veterinarians in the Woodland, CA area.  There I realized my desire to enter this field and attended the University of California, Davis, and earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1968.

My first job out of veterinary school was with a private practice in Thousand Oaks.  A couple of years later, I moved to Loomis and began a mixed animal practice from my home and car.  In 1975, a small house on Taylor Road in Loomis became available so I transitioned into that facility.

In 1976 Dr. Greg Fellers (Large Animal Services) joined me and Dr. Corey Cherrstrom, my partner in Small Animal, joined us in 1977.  It was a thrill in 1978 to move into the original hospital at our current location.  As a veterinary practitioner, I have had a special interest in llamas.  I also enjoy the entrepreneurial aspect of veterinary medicine.  Jani, my wife since 1969, and I have three grown sons: Doug, Greg, and John, and two grandsons.

Away from the practice, I enjoy high country hiking with our llamas, woodworking, collecting and restoring antiques, scuba diving, gardening and spending time with family and friends.  Most recently, we are enjoying yet another fruit of parenthood - grandparenthood.
